How to Fix EPG Not Showing in Your IPTV App

EPG data missing, blank, or showing the wrong schedule in your IPTV app? Here's a full troubleshooting walkthrough, cause by cause.

If you already know what an EPG is, our EPG explainer covers the basics and a quick-reference fix list. This guide goes deeper — a full, cause-by-cause walkthrough for when your program guide is missing, blank, showing the wrong schedule, or loading unusually slowly.

First, Identify Which EPG Problem You Actually Have

"EPG not showing" can mean a few different things, and the fix depends on which one applies:

  • The guide button/icon does nothing, or the guide screen is completely empty.
  • The guide shows channel names but no program titles or times.
  • The guide shows programs, but the times or titles are clearly wrong.
  • The guide loads slowly or partially, then eventually fills in.

Problem: The Guide Screen Is Completely Empty

This usually means the app hasn't successfully loaded EPG data at all, separately from your channel list itself. Try these in order:

  1. Restart the app fully (not just navigate back) — EPG data sometimes fails to load silently on first launch.
  2. Check that your channel list itself loaded correctly; if channels are also missing, the issue is broader than just EPG — see our buffering and connection guide.
  3. Look in your app's settings for an "EPG source" or "Guide source" option, and confirm one is actually selected rather than left blank.
  4. Give it more time — larger channel lists can take longer to populate guide data than the channel list itself.

Problem: Channels Show, But No Program Data

This is one of the most common EPG complaints, and it usually points to the EPG source specifically, rather than your connection. Some apps pull EPG data from a separate feed than the one used for live channels, and that feed can occasionally lag behind or fail to load independently. Try re-selecting or refreshing the EPG source in your app's settings — look for wording like "Update EPG," "Refresh Guide," or "Reload EPG" specifically, which is often separate from a general app refresh.

Problem: Times or Titles Are Wrong

Incorrect program times are almost always a time zone mismatch rather than bad data. Check that your device's system time zone matches your actual location — this is easy to overlook if you've traveled recently, changed regions, or set up the device somewhere other than where you're using it. On most devices, this is under general system settings rather than inside the IPTV app itself.

If times are correct but titles look mismatched or outdated, this typically means the EPG source hasn't refreshed recently. Forcing a manual EPG refresh (where your app offers one) usually resolves this faster than waiting for the next automatic update cycle.

Problem: The Guide Loads Slowly

Large channel lists mean more program data to download and organize, so some delay is normal, especially on first load after installing the app or adding a new playlist. If slow loading persists every time (not just on first setup), check your connection speed — EPG data downloads over the same connection as everything else, and a marginal connection can make text-heavy guide data feel sluggish even if video playback seems fine.

App-Specific Considerations

Exact menu wording for EPG settings varies by app — some call it "EPG Source," others "Guide Settings" or simply "TV Guide." See our supported apps page for the apps we cover, and our IPTV Smarters Pro setup guide for one specific example of where these settings typically live within an app's menu structure.

When It's Not Fixable On Your End

If you've worked through the steps above and EPG data is still missing or clearly wrong for specific channels only (while others work fine), the guide data for those channels may not be currently supplied correctly on the provider side — this happens occasionally and isn't something a local setting fixes. Reaching out with the specific channel name and what you're seeing helps narrow this down faster than a general "guide isn't working" report.
